This one is for you, Olivia...

My eldest daughter is 19 years old today. I am reflecting on the struggle of life - the joys and sorrows - as it's been happening in her life. Five weeks ago, her beloved cat Sammy died; she wept as she held him. Two weeks ago, she received a $1,000 scholarship, for coming top of her class last year. She wants to be top again this year.

Today, on her birthday, she ran five kilometers, alone, on a miserable blustery morning, to get fit for netball. She starts a new job today. And her much loved grandfather is very ill in hospital. She shed tears this morning, overwhelmed by her life at present.

Olivia, I am enormously proud of you. I love you to the ends of the earth and back. You show me that we can endure the highs and lows of life, if we love, and are loved. Go well, my beautiful daughter.
