I am reading Helen Greave's book 'Wheel of Eternity'. She helps two earthbound spirits to realize they are dead, and go to the light. One was a rich, unloving, bitter woman, who was appalled to end up in a dark, dirty hovel on the astral plane, due to her Earth behavior.
The woman was shown that, while she was 'rich' on Earth, she was poor in spirit. Hence her dismal surroundings on the astral plane. The woman was devastated when she 'saw' how badly she had treated her family on Earth. There's a powerful lesson in her story.
