Practice detachment to handle life's ebb and flow

It can be challenging, keeping your energy steady through the ebb and flow of life. When I am in a quiet ebb phase, I get bored and want excitement, adventure (usually an overseas trip). When I'm in flow, if I don't pace myself I feel stressed and overwhelmed.

Detachment is the answer. We need to step back, and see ebb and flow as the natural life cycle. Learn to drift through calm waters, appreciating the peace - then hold on tight for the thrill of the rapids. Each lifetime is a very short ride, so do enjoy both the ebb and flow.

Ride the rapids of the river of life

I had an image this morning: I saw a big river like the Colorado, with wild rapids and tranquil stretches. Life is like riding that river in a raft. You hang on tight through the rapids, recover your energy in the quiet stretches, then prepare for the next lot of rapids...

I am emerging from tumultuous rapids. I clung onto my raft (faith) and used my paddle as well as I could (prayer and meditation). Now I regroup and enjoy the scenery for a spell. It helps to observe and gain insight into the ebb and flow of your soul's journey on Earth.

Your life is passing before your eyes...

I have emerged from a quiet period into a potentially hectic phase. The difference shows when I meditate: my head is spinning with tasks to do while I try to calm my mind. When that happens I pull back and see my life from soul perspective.

My soul is amused actually - it saw me worrying during the quiet time that life was passing me by. What is passing by is all of life, whether busy times or quiet. One day we will find ourselves near death, looking back on this extraordinary journey. Go well until then!

Your life is always moving steadily ahead

I have had a lesson in the transient nature of life. For weeks it seemed that my life was stalled, nothing was progressing. Then last week, suddenly everything started to go ahead: house sale prospects, new house plans, new study group.

Life is moving ahead all the time, in an ebb/flow pattern, but we don't always feel the gentle movement and can get discouraged. Keep faith during the slow times and enjoy the momentum when you experience it again. Your life is exactly on track...

Ebb and flow of life

Life moves like the tide, ebbing and flowing. It is important for soul growth to work intensively with the incoming tide of energy and relax and reflect on the outgoing energy.

The full moon each month is an excellent time to consider the ebb and flow of your life. Pause each full moon and consider if you are in balance, moving with the natural flow of the Universe. If you are stressed, you are not in flow. Pull back...reflect.
